Change for Climate is a climate change initiative from the City of Edmonton.
Our Building Energy Benchmarking (BEB) program advances Change Buildings for Climate for a faster local energy transition by generating demand for energy efficient products and services by Edmonton building owners.
The BEB program collects, compares and benchmarks building energy performance across large building stock in Edmonton (and nationally). Through the program, the City of Edmonton also offers incentives for buildings to do energy audits that help buildings understand their energy efficiency gaps and so, improve their energy performance.
Year 5 of the program saw increased levels of participation across a wide range of commercial buildings, including our own municipal buildings. A few Year 5 program highlights include an increase in participation from 424 buildings (in year 4) to 705 buildings (in year 5); a program retention rate of about 80% since its launch; and an average overall energy use intensity (EUI) change for Year 4 to Year 5 buildings of -3.45% (GJ/m2).
Make sure to check out the Year 5 Benchmarking Report and Dashboard at edmonton.ca/energybenchmarking which will be released on June 28!
