Change for Climate is a climate change initiative from the City of Edmonton.
As part of the City’s Climate Resilient Policy C627 and our commitment to be carbon neutral by 2040, staff are working to reduce emissions. Through participation in BOMA BEST we are working to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions produced by the buildings we own or lease. City buildings account for nearly 50% of the corporation's greenhouse gas emissions. BOMA BEST, provides a consistent framework for assessing the environmental performance and management of existing buildings of all sizes which helps us reduce our GHG output.
The program emphasizes continuous environmental improvement in 10 different areas: Energy, Water, Air, Comfort, Health & Wellness, Custodial, Purchasing, Waste, Site, and Stakeholder Engagement.
In 2021, the City successfully certified 15 additional buildings through the BOMA BEST Program, with a total count of 20 buildings certified to date. To see which buildings are certified BOMA BEST, check out the map. The certified buildings are part of a diverse portfolio that includes office towers, libraries, recreational centres, bus barns, and fleet maintenance facilities.
Thank you to the team of building operators who have helped these facilities join a growing list of City of Edmonton buildings that have been BOMA BEST certified.
