Environmental stewardship is one of the pillars at the heart of EPCOR’s mission to provide clean water and safe, reliable energy.
That’s why Encor by EPCOR, the retail energy branch of EPCOR’s business, has partnered with the City of Edmonton on the Energizing Edmonton Project. With the support of Natural Resources Canada and the City, Encor is installing 24 electric vehicle (EV) chargers—free to users—that are located at eight locations around the city where commuters can enjoy some recreation or enrichment while they charge.

“Rolling out more options for drivers looking to support a greener future is what Energizing Edmonton is all about,” said Stuart Lee, EPCOR President & CEO. “The new EV charging sites were selected in collaboration with our partners at the City of Edmonton – keeping the needs of driver’s top of mind. And not only are these chargers conveniently located in all quadrants of the city; commuters can plug in for free.”
The new charging stations include level 2 and 3 chargers. Level 2 chargers can charge two vehicles at a time and provide about 40 km of range for each hour of charging, while level 3 chargers can charge one vehicle at a time, but provide about 300 km of range for each hour of charging. These new EV chargers will ensure that commuters have more options as they look to support a greener future.

The new charging stations were announced at a media event on Friday, October 28 at Edmonton’s TELUS World of Science, which is also the site of Encor by EPCOR’s first Level 3 charging station. All of the free new EV chargers can be found at the following locations:
- TELUS World of Science at 11211-142 St NW (Level 3 – 1 charger)
- Edmonton Expo Centre at 7515-118 Ave NW (Level 2 – 2 chargers)
- Callingwood Twin Arena at 17740-69 Ave NW (Level 2 – 4 chargers)
- Terwillegar Recreation Centre at 2051 Leger Rd NW (Level 2 – 4 chargers)
- Meadows Recreation Centre at 2704-17 St NW (Level 2 – 4 chargers)
- Edmonton Convention Centre at 9711 Grierson Hill (Level 2 – 4 chargers)
- EPCOR’s Hugh J. Bolton building at 12116-107 St NW (Level 2 – 4 chargers)
- Blatchford (coming soon) (Level 3 – 1 charger)
These new chargers are in addition to the charging station Encor by EPCOR installed outside the Kinsmen Sports Centre in 2019.
