On Thursday, June 13, City of Edmonton employees gathered at City Hall for the 2019 Charles Labatiuk Awards for Environmental Excellence.
What are the Labatiuk Awards?
The Labatiuk Awards are an annual award honouring City of Edmonton employees who have demonstrated environmental excellence, above and beyond their job description and who inspire others to be sustainable in their work and workplace.
Why do they exist?
These awards are named in honour of the late Charles Labatiuk, Ph.D, P.Eng — a City of Edmonton environmental champion who worked as a senior environmental engineer during his sixteen-year career with the city. Charles had a passion for mountaineering, conservation and world travel and was well known by family and colleagues as a man dedicated to the well-being of nature and mankind.
Who was recognized?
24 sustainability-minded nominees were recognized for striving to improve Edmonton’s carbon footprint through their work at the City. One of them is Trena MacGillivray.
